Hello folks,
I'm new to this forum and DSL, so please be patient with me.
I'm running an old Pentium II 300MHz laptop in a dual-boot configuration Win98/SimplyMEPIS using GRUB. The computer has a 20G HDD and 160Mb RAM. I have currently three partitions:
- 2Gb for the Win98 SE system files - 8Gb for Win98 SE programs and data - 10Gb total for MEPIS
I'd like to do a frugal DSL HDD installation, so I have a couple of questions. Before you ask, yes, I searched the forum but couldn't find information on a case similar to mine:
1. I'd like to take 1Gb out of the 10Gb now assigned to MEPIS and make it into a partition for DSL. When I installed MEPIS I partitioned the HDD using QTpart, can I do the same to create the partition for DSL?
2. I guess it is possible to keep the GRUB installation from MEPIS and just add DSL to the boot menu. How do I do that?
3. Should I do or be aware of anything else to accomplish my goal of having a triple Win98/MEPIS/Frugal DSL boot?
I have been using MEPIS for about a year, so I'm not entirely new to Linux. I do not fear the command line , I started with computers as a teen-ager in the early '80s with DOS and I had to do quite some tweaking to MEPIS to get it to work on my two computers. However, I do not consider myself a Linux expert (yet... ), so please do not assume anything if you will be so kind to provide instructions.
Thanks in advance.
