I am a total nOOb and, after seeing how easily I can screw up other linux distros, I want to figure this out first. I also searched but couldn't find this topic...
The user known as "dsl" is the main user set up by the system when it does a HD install(which I did--very smooth): . This is the default. But I guess I was waiting for a prompt to type in my user name.
I don't see a need for user: dsl in my system and I want to add myself (vincev) as the only user...then delete user: dsl (or just change the name to vincev). So I tried it. But it didn't carry over the defaults.
I want to do all this in a way that anything pointing to the user "dsl" won't be lost--I would rather have those defaults but for a different name: vincev. Here are some default examples: sudo is already setup for user "dsl", to name one easily spotted application.
Also, when bringing up the mail program sylpheed, dsl was already filled in for 'username'. I want this to work for vincev.
What's the global way/smart way to change "dsl" to vincev. Could I a make some sort of symlink or script that would allow me to do this?
So, before i start dedicating myself to configing and settling into trusting DSL, what is the smartest way to capture all the tools/defaults pointed towards user "dsl" and have them point to user "vincev"
I am new to editing config or bash files, and a gui would be great, but I am just trying to honor the overall design/integrity of the system here...and not go to all the work and then have to figure out a way to copy/get my configurations over to user "vincev".
Hopefully this does make sense. Thanks. All clues appreciated...
