Probably the best thing to do is a google on how to dual boot linux. It's a long discussion and you need to follow a step-by-step to partition and format your hard drive first.

Download one of the DSl-?.??ISO files. Use a CD burning program that can burn CDs from ISO images and burn a CD Try running it from the CD for a while first. It's pretty fast right from the CD and that way you don't need to touch your hard drive for awhile.

It is actually incredibly simple to get dual boot runnning with DSL

IF

you have a partition to put it on.  You just right click and use the script.  It was done in about a minute (I'd just installed windows again and dsl was a pleasant surprise...)

If you get the cd running (current dsl.iso) and find it a bit slow, you can boot using the cd and use - fromhd= or toram so that it isn't accessing the cd.

If you don't have a spare partition and want to have dsl on it, you'll need to resize the one you have.
