ok iv got a problem :(( i tried to install xfree86 and now when i boot it gets no where saying no such file or directory n bla bla, before altering the files to run xfree86 i backed them up by saving under another name ie with an _ :P and i planned to go in from the live cd anr replace the files if they didnt work, only problem is when i boot from the live cd its restoring from the hda7 and not letting me go in to X window to make the changes :(

fixed that just reinstalled everything makes it all cleaner from mt previous mistakes anyway :P

on a another note, is there a newbie step by step guide or a how to install Xfree86, i searched the forum on this n found lots of info but its not really helpfull unless u know what ur doing anyway,,, im after this for both my home pc and my laptop install and after trying a few times on both machines i still havnt got a clue how to get it working n not have the boot crash on me.

Just read another post that sounds related and brought a question to mind. How much RAM do you have? Also, you can keep DSL from restoring by using the cheatcode dsl norestore when you boot.
