I have copied the .iso to a cdrw disk but the CDROM isn't recognising this am I doing something basic wrong, Is there anything else they need to copy to the CD??

Yes. The iso is a compressed CD image. You can not run it. You need to use a CD burning program that can burn iso images and burn the CD from the image.
