Greetings all !

OK.. I have been a DSL user and Linux User for quite some time.  so I am not a noob in most areas.

Here is the issue.  I have a desktop- IBM PL 300- I tried many different ways from the installation script.. to using mouseconf script to configure the mouse on this computer.
tried all the different com ports ( even if I knew they were not right out of sheer frustration).

Now.. here is something that is interesting.  due to the fact that I couldnt get the mouse to work in DSL.. I installed mandriva 2005 LE.. the mouse worked there but the sound did not !!!

In the process of diagnosing THAT issue.. I learned something about the configuration of this PC.  First is that it has ( YUK!) a WIndows Sound System achitecture.  This also came in 2 versions.. one SB16 bit version.. and the other a Crystal sound version.  I found mine was the Crystal sound version and was then able to find some IRQ settings .. but alas no joy..   Digging into some far reaches where a bunch of people were saying.. install another sound card.. I found one person who gave me the answer I needed .... because of the BIOS settings.. there were conflicts.. sooo  I had to disable the Plug-N-Pray BIOS setting.. and also the ACPI was set to disable.  In this way I was able to remove what ever conflicts were there and was able to get sound..

NOW... I did all that explaining just to find out if anyone else may have had this issue AND.. possibly if that had removed any issues for others during their install/usage of DSL ?

Thanks in advance.. and sorry for the long missive..

Peace,

Mark

Yes... I did try that.. and still had issues with all the different configurations of p/s-2  COM# combinations.. it was quite frustrating..

Thanks for trying .. since I disabled the PnP Bios.. I am going to go home this afternoon and try it again.. see if things have changed after making those bios changes and will report back afterward..
