Greetings..
It goes without saying that for me, DSL is the best thing around. That aside, for your hardware I would think you have a few options. Find an embedded version of Linux that would only take a miniscule amount of Ram to run. ( I admittedly dont know what Embedded DSL takes). Embeded DSL, uClinux, something like that.. Alternatively something else that is NOT linux.. like Minix, Menuet, Symphony.. a few others as such.. Just a few suggestions to ponder.
It kills me when I hear people refer to older hardware as useless. There is even developement still on going for DOS.
