I have a Thinkpad 600e that I have overclocked by installing a new processor. To do this I had to disable the L2 cache during post. The following link has a module and instructions on installing it.

piiicache

I have done this with my SuSE partition and it works great. By re-enabling the L2 there is a big performance boost. I have hacked at this with DSL since Friday and cannot find a way to compile this. I tried on a different computer but that failed when I tried to move it to DSL. I would like to know a way to run make against the tarball and where to store the module when I have it compiled. I know how to use the startboot files, I just am unable to figure out the way to compile and  install. Can someone help.

What did you do and how far did you get for now?

You'll probably want to get gcc*.dsl and gnu-utils in myDSL.

Since you'll want the gcc version to match the build of the kernel, you might want to get gcc v. 2.95 via apt-get as well (I don't see it in mydsl)

I could not get make to work in dsl. I compiled the piiicache version for 2.4 kernel on an old install of SuSE 9.1. Copied it to my thumb drive then to my /home/dsl and tried modprobe. It just hung. Waited for five minutes and still hung. Tried several times.

My dsl install is frugal. I am still trying to get use to the way frugal works.

If more info is needed please ask. I am bad about not giving enough. I assume to much.

You cannot use another kernel from another distribution because
1. The 2.4.x version is probably different
2. The configuration for the kernel environment is also probably different.

Please follow my previous post for a head start.
