I have dsl 2.4 running just about the way I want it on my old laptop (p166, 64mb ram, modem and Orinocco wifi card, frugal install).  Two questions:

1)  What would I get from the upgrade?  I've downloaded the 3.01 iso and booted with it.  The kernel and much of the software seem to be the same as in 2.4.

2)  The linux24 and minirt24.gz boot files seem to be the same between the two versions.  Could I just replace the KNOPPIX file on the hd with the one from the 3.01 cd to try out the upgrade?

Thanks very much.

1. See http://damnsmalllinux.org/notes.html

2. Yea, you can replace the KNOPPIX file, but watch out for changes that could alter your backup.tar.gz if you use one.

Thanks.

1.  I knew that list had to be somewhere, just couldn't find it.

2.  I'll be sure to keep a copy of backup.tar.gz in a "secure location."

No.  DSL-N uses the 2.6 kernel, and there are several differences in what applications are used.  The basic configuration  and other DSL-specific tools are pretty much the same, as far as I know, but apart from that i doubt there are many similarities that would make a smooth transition.
