Very new Linux experimenter here!

I've put Suse, Ubunto & Knoppix on my desktop OK using CD boot.

Wanted to try DSL on my small laptop.  Laptop bios does not support CD boot only FD/HD.  Simple I thought - make bootfloppy using file from site.

But bootfloppy.img is 1.44M and any floppy I have is too small.

I have tried formatting floppy as DOS/BAT = 1.38M;
ext2 = 1.3M;
Minix = closest at 1.4M

therefore all fail to write .img to floppy.

So what's the trick? (not too technospeak answer please - if possible)

Thanks.

In Linux, open a terminal window, and go to the directory that contains bootfloppy.img.  Run the command "dd if=bootimage.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1024" (no quotes).  You will probably need to be root to do this.

No techno speak. How about from the main menu...

Apps->Tools->Make Boot Floppy

Hi again,
just a thank you for your replies.

dd... worked fine

realise I could have got almost this from Wiki so have read all the intro docs now!!!!   Sorry for not doing it first, too far into this instant gratification society we live in now  :(

Lovely that you guys replied and helped me out anyway. Obviously a great forum and community.  Will stay and only ask really difficult questions from now on, well they may be really difficult to me...

Thanks again, onwards and into the syslinux.iso ...
