Hi,

I have installed DSL "frugal"ly using Grub as the bootloader and everything is working fine.

I am struggling trying to boot from Grub and having the frugal install start up with the lowram boot option.  When I add the lowram option to the line in Grub, it seems to ignore it, and when I am finished booting, I am looking at the regular desktop with icons and all.

Are there other Grub booting options that could override the lowram option?  Or is booting with the lowram option not possible when booting from a frugal install?

Thanks,

Andy

lowram is not a boot option but instead a boot image label.
It is similiar as fb800x600 and other boot image labels.

What lowram calls is the following set of boot options:

apm=power-off vga=normal noscsi noideraid nosound nousb nofirewire noicons minimal nomce noapic noapm

Thanks roberts!  I wasn't understanding the logic of the labels very well I guess.  I will try that string out.

I've been tinkering with this and have found a couple of things.  When booting with this line from a frugal install, the following things occur:

The "noicons" command is ignored.  To ignore the loading of icons, you need to change the ~/.desktop file and change the icons line to read:
Code Sample
icons: 0

The "minimal" command is ignored.  When booting up DSL appears to use the previously used style, which can be found in ~/.fluxbox/init as the line:
Code Sample
session.styleFile: /usr/share/fluxbox/styles/Minimal
You can change the style through the fluxbox menu: Desktop -> Styles.

Your backup/restore would of course override the boot options.
