I got a block when I tried to install VMTools on a DSL harddrive installation.

The trick was to get apt working and do:

 sudo apt-get install gcc-2.95

This got gcc matching the gcc that was used to build my kernel and then the vmtools install script shut the up and successfully completed.

After you get this far, try

 /usr/bin/vmware-toolbox

and further shrink your harddrive by another 10%.

Please contact me with absolutely any questions.

The only way I have found is to compile a new kernel or to use the older versions of DSL. I have found that the 2.2b versions work without modifying it much. There are some issues with this version so you will want to review to updates that took place for the 2.3 version of dsl.

You can download my DSL entry from VMware, It has tools installed already. Do a search for COD2 Server on the Vmware site.screenshots I just hadn't loaded tools yet on the screen shot shown.
