Short and simple question here, since I think I've found the solution.
DSL rocks, period. Of every distro I've tried, it is by far the easiest to use and the only one I've been able to get my wireless card to work on my laptop. So, kudos.
The problem I'm having is getting my sound card to work. Okay, so it won't work out of the box. No problem, right? Grab sndconfig, maybe alsa, and in a few minutes it'll be up and running. Except, you know, it isn't.
However. I think I've stumbled onto an answer, which is where I need help. The latest release of Knoppix recognizes my sound card out of the box and runs fine. Except for the fact that I once again can't get ndiswrapper to work on Knoppix (yet it runs fine on DSL) and the fact that the system is so damn large I may as well go back to Windows, it'd be perfect.
So, my question is, can I simply rip the dev/dsp files from the Knoppix LiveCD and recompile them on DSL? Will this work? Are there any other issues I'll have to watch out for, or any other files which may need to be modified, if I do this? I figure since DSL is based on Knoppix it shouldn't be too difficult, correct?
Oh, right. I'm running DSL as a full HD install on a Sony Vaio laptop. The sound card is developed by Acer laboratories, but, as I said, sndconfig doesn't recognize it. As for alsa, it won't even install correctly on my computer.
