How can I initiate an HD install if I don't have the GUI menu?  I would like to try a frugal install first, then possibly a conventional install.

The command dslinstall will bring up a command line installation menu.

Thanks!  That worked, after I partitioned with fdisk and formatted with mkfs.ext2.

(For some reason it didn't work the first time when I let the install routine do the formatting.. it responded "no space left on device").

Anytime you repartition it is always best to reboot.
This will ensure that the correct partition table will be used.

As long as you dont read from that disk before you write, you will not be required to restart - but otherwise you'll usually have to.
