Hi,

I have Puppy Linux installed on the 1st partition of my HD, and want to install DSL on the second, I have a 3rd spare partition and a Linux swap partition.

How do I install DSL on the second partition and make grub give me the option of choosing whether to boot up Puppy or DSL. I have heard that I will lose the boot up otion for Puppy unless I edit GRUB, but I don't know how to.

Could someone tell me if it will work without editing grub, or if I have to edit it , how to (Never edited grub so I will need an easy guide, or some good links to easy guides)

If I missed this question already answered somewhere please link me to it.

Thanks.

Bear in mind that I'm no expert on grub: The grub config file normally is /boot/grub/grub.conf and you have to add an entry for the other OS. If puppy uses grub, then you could copy the puppy grub file entry into the DSL grub file and you should be done (I think). If not, you have to create one yourself where (I think) e.g. (hd0,0) means the first partition on the primary master and (hd1,2) means the third partition on the primary slave.

Thanks. I did a frugal install of DSL on hda2 using the grub option, however it messed up Puppy booting, so I re-installed Puppy on hda1 (which reinstalled GRUB)  and struck lucky with this post :

http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....73;st=5
specifically this bit

title DSL
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/linux24 root=/dev/hda2 quiet vga=normal noacpi noapm dma toram noscsi frugal
initrd /boot/minirt24.gz

and pasted it into Puppy's grub details "menu.lst"

Now I get grub offering me the option of Puppy and DSL  :D which both work  :D I'm happy, as I could really say I only half understand what I've done.  :D
