I am writing this on my Thinkpad i1400 that has a new lease on life thanks to DSL.  I have network connection and I am thrilled with it but I would like to get my wheel mouse working.  Right now it functions as a two button mouse.  I am a newbie that played with a successful frugal install and then went to a full HDD install.  I am really a newbie and I need someone to walk me through the mouse issue.  Thanks for any help in adance.

Enter into command line by giving

CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE

(Hope you might know this) it quits from X windows and gets to linux command prompt.

There type

sh xsetup.sh

It will ask you to configure the X settings . It will ask for the type of mouse.

USB Mouse, IMPS mouse are some options.

I normally choose IMPS mouse and it works well with scrolling one.

Try to change the type of mouse and see if it works.

Fill up the remaining things of setup as you need.

Run startx again from console to boot into newly configured X.

Note: Always Backup data before experimenting

Thanks for the help.  I tried it to no effect.  I have USB mouse so I am going to try that.  One thing I discovered with your help is that the IBM trackpoint is functioning in DSL.  So anybody with an IBM laptop can take note of this!:p
