Hey Gang,
I have performed a frugal grub install to my hard drive and it seems to work properly with the exception of it not saving any settings.
I can set up my /opt/bootlocal.sh with my stuff, save it, then open it with beaver to double check that it got saved. But it goes back to the default empty commented file after I reboot.
I am using the 3.1 rc 4, but I have had this problem with everything from 2.4 up. A regular HD install works, and I do not have this problem with my frugal install to pen drive on a USB stick. The machine is a DELL Inspiron 3500, w 5GB drive partitioned as hda1 ext2 1GB (hda2 swap 512MB) and hda3 rest of drive ext3. I selected the "L" (Live version CD) for the source of the install.
Any ideas of what I might be missing?
