I purchased the Bargain Barebones system from the DSL store (product link: here)
I've been running it with Knoppix 5.0.1 from a CF card, and it's worked pretty well so far. I've found myself needing to upgrade to a more traditional installation, so I purchased a Samsung HM100JC notebook hard drive - 2.5" 100GB. I built a bracket to support the HD inside the chassis. The hard drive is auto detected by the BIOS in a Shuttle SV-25 I've got nearby, but the DSL system doesn't see the drive at the BIOS level. Kinda hard to boot into *anything* if the BIOS says the hard drive doesn't exist.
If I go in to manually configure the IDE settings, the BIOS will find the drive if I manually poke the "auto detect" button on the Basic/IDE Master page, but it erroneously reports the drive parameters. It says the drive capacity is 288 PB (yeah, I wish.) If I manually configure the CHS parameters, it'll retain the 288PB capacity until the next reboot, when it properly reports 100GB in the BIOS. Unfortunately, at the reboot the IDE detection fails - it says "IDE master hard disk fail".
The motherboard is an ECS C3VCM6. ECS doesn't acknowledge this board's existence on their corporate website. Any idea where an updated BIOS might be obtained, assuming there is one?
