tried to boot from CD on my pentuim 233mhz 32mb ram IBM thinkpad.

I downloaded the current.iso and burned it to a cd and tried to boot, and i get

"isolinux 2.04 (debian 2003-06-06) isolinux:disk error 0142918B"

i burned another boot cd and got the same error, where is the problem coming from, my HD or the boot cd?

First things first, check the hash (md5) of the iso file and make sure that it downloaded correctly.  I have had problems in the past with that.  Make sure that the "verify data" is set on your burner.  I usually set the burn to the lowest speed and record on iso9660 only because I have to move stuff to Unix all the time.  Boring but it makes sure that the burn is correct.

Once that is confirmed, we can proceed.

i have the same problem trying to boot on a PII, 400mhz, 128mb ram. i checked the hash, and tested the LiveCD on another computer and it worked fine...

in my case i get the message:

"ISOLINUX 2.04 (Debian, 2003-06-06) isolinux: disk error 0142919F"

i tried several distributions (Ubuntu, puppy, gentoo, mepis), but only the PClinuxOS LiveCD did boot. but with only 128 ram it runs rather slow.

i think it has something to do with a dodgy bios...

That would suck if it is a bios issue.  If it looks like a bios problem, have you checked on any new bios updates?

i have had this problem on two 10yearold boxes and the solution was that the cdrom was not read correctly from the cdrom-drive. so a newer cdrom drive or switch of the hdd to a newer box (for installing)could help.
bye,lulu
