yes putting the hd in another box would work. about the cd-drive... the computer has two but only boots from one. maybe i can try removing the first drive and booting from the second.
anyway, it remains strange that PClinuxOS live cd did boot... I'm considering installing PClinuxOS to the HD which would take care of installing a bootloader (grub or lilo) and give an OS to work with. After that i'll try to edit the bootloader so it boots DSL instead...
