I'm trying to install DSL on a Toshiba Libretto 110CT, but I believe I'm having problems with the boot loader.
Since I don't have access to a PCMCIA cd-rom and this computer doesn't have USB ports I found an old parallel iomega zip drive and copied the KNOPPIX folder from the cd to a zip disk. It boots just fine to the X desktop using a boot floppy and the boot options: dsl vga=808 dsl zipboot. I've partitioned the drive into two sections: hda1: 128M Linux Swap hda2: 3G Linux boot
However, when I do dsl-hdinstall, the files copy just fine (if I mount hda2 I can see them), but there are still some error messages. The first two come after "The copying of system files has been completed"
Setting up /root/ Setting up /home/dsl/ tar: Removing leading `/' from member names mount: relocation error: mount: undefined symbol: blkid_known_fstype cp: cannot stat `/mnt/auto/floppy/linux24': No such file or directory.
And then after I chose to install the boot loader the last line printed is:
No appropriate miniroot is available.
And when I go to boot off the hard-drive I get: No operating system
I can reboot using the floppy/zip method and confirm that the files were copied, so it leads me to believe that something is going wrong with the boot loader installation.
So I was wondering if there's something here that I'm missing. And if not, is there a way to install and configure a boot loader on a mounted hard-drive?
