write through drives: A B

Current options
/MLX        program is loaded into conventional & XMS memory using dpms
/BL=16     look ahead buffer is in conventional memory size in kb
/Lend=ON lend memory to other applications-6646kb available
/Delay=OFF write delay is disabled, caching is write through

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.

I am tring to put DSL on a emachine, 533mhz, 32 meg sd ram, 8.4 g hd, floppy drive, cd rom that seems to be working.

I have the bios set to 1st boot cd rom, 2nd hdd.

I also tried to boot up on another box that I am currently using.

Thanks for any help.

You probably did not burn the cd properly.  Please see the wiki on how to burn an .iso as a CD image.

Thanks,  I did read through that info,  but I am new to burning so that could very well be the problem.   Back to reading...I will post either new questions or results.

Thanks again.

Hi! I'm new to DamnSmallLinux but not to Linux, though I'm still learning.

I recently downloaded an ISO of DSL and want to know if it's possible to boot it up from an ext2 partition (or two) belonging to a different Linux distribution? It's no problem to extract the files from the ISO as I have Midnight Commander installed, but I'd need to know what files go where and what entries to put on my Lilo configuration file.

At present I dual-boot between Windows XP (NTFS, so I don't think I could use Loadlin) and Vector Linux 5.8. I've got a main Vector partition which contains my boot subdirectory and a secondary one on which I store my tar and config file copies for when I need to reinstall.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Colonel Panic .

Colonel Panic: Although your question doesn't have to do with this thread's particular problem... I will try to answer it here.

Booting from an iso: you'll probably need a special bootloader. (haven't done this myself)

Manual frugal (the way I install mine): Extracting the iso's contents onto some place on a partition (you won't need everything here...).  Add the boot configuration for a frugal installation in your bootloader (see {iso|sys}linux/{iso|sys}linux.cfg for some bootloader customization, or search around the web) .  Reboot.
