i am new to DSL and am trying to boot it from a boot floppy on a compaq deskpro 2000.
The specs are:
166mhz w/mmx
32 mb ram-increased with 2 128 stick to make it 288
No windows os on the system (use to run win95) only dos.  When I start it comes to a c: prompt
I have not been able to boot from the live cd (3.1). live cd boots on my xp machine.
When I use the boot floppy I see the DSL splash page and it starts to boot then says:
Cant find  knoppix filesystem, sorry.  dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Please reset button to quit."
"Additional built in commands available:
cat mount umount insmod rmmod lsmod"
then it has the following prompt:
knoppix#
Any ideas on how to load DSL.  I am new and will need the step by step.
Thanks in advance!

Can your DOS see (read from) the cdrom drive?

In order to use the DSL boot floppy and a DOS formatted drive, you need to have at a minimum the knoppix folder containing the knoppix file on c:\

c:\knoppix\knoppix

You can use many mthods to get this on the C: drive.

If while running dos you can get to the D:\ drive, the cdrom then you could copy over a file.

If you have dos network access you could download a file.

If you have no DOS capabilities, ie reading a cdrom, or net access to download, then your choices are very limited.

1. remove the hard drive and temporarily install into another computer that can boot from cdrom and install then return hard drive into this machine.

2. use another machine and prepare a stack for about 34 floppy disks to copy over the knoppix/knoppix

Those are your choices.
