Sure.

Follow the instructions to create a boot floppy.  It worked well for versions older than 0.8.0    I have not tried it with version 0.8.0 yet.

You can still boot DSL even if your CDROM is not detected by the boot floppy.

You should do this:

Create the DSL CD-R (NOT a CD-RW disk) disk by using an ISO burn option like "File -> Burn Image" from Nero.  Test your CD-R disk on a newer computer somewhere.  You should also verify the ISO MD5SUM so that you did not get a corrupted download.

Create a DSL boot floppy.  Verify that the boot floppy works by using it on a newer computer.

If the CD-R disk + boot floppy does not work on your 486 computer, then copy over the \KNOPPIX\ folder to your C:\ drive (this assumes that you have a C:\ drive that was formatted from DOS or Windows 3.1 / 95 / 98 and that you have about 50MB of free space on the drive).

Then try the boot floppy again. It should detect the \KNOPPIX\ folder on your C:\ drive and use it like a Fake CD-ROM drive.

Since you have a small amount of RAM, you should probably create a swap file or swap partition once you are up and running in DSL. Search the forums for more details on how to do this.

Hope this helps.
