Hi,

I just installed DSL on my compaq presario 1236 laptop.  The install went great, however. . .   When it boots into X, the monitor is so bright you can't read anything.  Think of major sun glare shining on your monitor, that's what it's like.  I have tried using Xsetup, but it doesn't correct the issue.  I have tried xf86config, XF86Setup, but they dont come up.  I know it isn't the monitor itself, because when it boots you can see everything that is booting, with the colored text.  Once X starts it has the major glare.  I hope this makes sense. . .
Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks
Eric

Weird.  Did you try starting up using a framebuffer, instead of xvesa?

I'm having the same problem - I believe he's referencing the "green screen" issue.  Most of the solutions on here tell you to run fb800x600 at boot time, but I have a hard drive install and this solution just doesn't work.

Any help would be great - thank you!

control - alt- backspace   to kill the Xserver
then run xsetup.sh
then you can set it up the way you wish
and it will save it for you
