Offhand, I'd say the iso image was not burned properly.  Can you read the contents of the CD using Windows?  Do you see at least the folders Knoppix and boot?

I will look at Nero to see what the procedure is. I did start to think this was the problem after my posting. I'm trying to load an HP Vectra v1400. 800 mhz with 256 megs of ram. 20 gig hd.

using the wizard and choosing cd(iso) and thinking that was burning the image. I was just burning the file onto the cd every time. I now have all the folders and it boots.
