It is only a disk check, similar to scandisk for M$ ..
It detects either an error, which it wants to resolve, or, the partition has reached its max number of mounts, and just wants to run 'thru the motions'
Bootup with a LiveCD, open a root shell, and run e2fsck /dev/hdXx ( Xx = your partition )
Let it run thru its routine, usuallly answering yes to anything it wants to fix.
Then run DSL as usual, and your messages should disappear. ( till the next time )
I have never had any ill effects from running this, unless the HD was truly corrupted or damaged..
