i've actually had crashes here and there with dsl but i figured its all because of the low specs system i have it runing on (laptop p2 200mhz with 32mb ram).

im seeing with 'free' that there's no swap usage (free shows 0 total of swap, although i've configured about a 256mb partition which is /dev/hda3 for linux swap)

i tried swapon -a /dev/hda3 but it just throws me away to the usage screen.

any ideas?

solved the problem. i had to do mkswap on /dev/hda3 first and then run swapon /dev/hda3
it works fine now.
