i am attempting to install DSL on an old ibm 760e.  the machine doesn't have a bootable cdrom drive, or the smart IT guys that built it won't let it boot a 650 meg cd.  anyway, the only other option i could come up with was a network install.  i am using my personal laptop, which runs kubuntu 5.04, to get tomsrtbt so i can start the install from the documentation.  should i should reformat the ibm drive prior to doing the network install, or does DSL have a feature that will reformat the drive before the install?  Thanks.

Before you kill yourself, check the bios for cdromm booting on tht thinkpad. I beleive it should happily boot from cd. Thos cdroms can be media finicky. Hold the F1 key on power on to enter bios. go to startup options. Not sure if they introduced this yet, but some allow f12 to puit amenu up on startup for boot devices, where you can select what you want. if not, set the boot order to cdrom, hdd.
If you can boot the cd then, you're erady to go.
Mount hda, open a xshell ast root and use cfdisk to delete the existing parititons and creat the new ones as you want. DSL should run very nicely on that laptop.
Good luck!

Can you help me with a hard drive install?  To install to the hard drive, can I start up off of the CD and run cfdisk from there? I'm having issues with that...  I get a fatal error when I run cfdisk...  I tried creating a Linux partition using Partition magic and still have issues.  I'm not very good with Linux commands...

Thanks,
Marc

Don't worry, I found another post from "tjm4fun" that was exactly what I needed!

Thanks,
