hello all,
ok i'm not a total noob, but i know i still have a fair bit to learn, so here what i understand of the problem i'm haveing:
PII 300, 320Mb Dual booting w/ XP mulit user Enhanced HDD install of dsl from the dsl-1.2.1.iso installed from loadlin from a fat32 partition (laptop with no cdrom drive)
i'm currently trying to set up DSl to be my base linux system.
i have added a daily user account "lizard' which has a mapped partition to all my files i want to use between OS's, and have added it to all appropate groups the the dsl user account was in.
and i have the default root account for maintance, updates and what ever.
up to this point everything is fine.
i ran Code Sample | userdel -r dsl | to remove the dsl user that i had no intention of useing, and with it the /home/dsl files.
when i rebooted xtdesk would not display the icone for more than a 1/2 sec or so. i checked the .lnk files and fixed the absolute references to the icon images to be relative ones in a few files ( 2-3 i think), from inside X i tried to run xtdesk again and it said that there was still an absolute reference to /home/dsl...... and when i double checked the link file ( something like flwrite.lnk, i'm not in dsl right now), there was not mention to the /home/dsl .
i re-ran the live version and coppied back the /home/dsl folder, and rebooted to find everything working.
why is it that with out the /home/dsl folder (and sub folders) that xtdesk will not work?
haveing the extra folder is not that big of a deal, but the neat freak in me wants it gone, cuz it in theroy is not needed. and no i cant just use the dsl profile, my network is setup for a user name of lizard to be passes for network access.
