When using a pendrive, (USB-ZIP , no USB-HDD support on this machine) to "Install to Harddrive" , I find I have to add the /boot directory and contents from a LiveCD to the pendrive, or I see lilo errors during the mkliloboot portion of the install..
Three of my laptops has no internal cdrom, only external thru a IBM PCMCIA-IDE card, and an external floppy drive. (IBM 240's) Celeron 300's/400's, and 192MB ram, they run DSL via fb800x600 nicely.
Booting from the bootfloppy-usb, and my pendrive, works great for HDInstalls with this directory added..
I normally run them frugally using the "toram" option. But when testing DSL in a HDInstalled environment, this method of installing works best for me on these laptops.
