Hi,
I'm trying to do a HD install of DSL 1.4 on an old i486: 80486DX2 80MHz 64MB RAM 2GB IDE HD (attached to Promise DC 4030 VL ISA controller). 2xSpeed CDROM attached through soundcard with IDE controller (the Promise controller doesn't support ATAPI).
Since my machine can't boot from CD, I've downloaded a floppy image.
I boot the floppy, CD drive is found, and DSL loads and starts correctly (thanks for a great, damn small, Linux distro!)
Now I want to do a HD install. So I follow the steps for HD installation (2 partitions, and all that), until some point where the boot loader has to be installed, and I'm told that DSL has to reboot in order to finish. When the reboot starts my machine again, I get a lot of "40 40 40 40 40 40 40 40 40 40 40..." covering half my screen, and the computer locks up.
The only type of remedy I could think of, was to keep my / partition below 1024 blocks, but that didn't help.
Can anyone help me with advice on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance, and regards Martin A. Bøgelund
