Hi,

I just installed Damn Small Linux in a partition on HD. Now i want to install "OpenOffice.ci", that i have downloaded from de isos site.

How can i do that?

I dont think you can install with just the .ci file, the ci file is a compressed iso used to mount the nonvolital parts of open office in a place other than the ramdisk, this uses less ram when running from cd.

If you used the frugal install option you probably can just put the openoffice.ci file and the oouser file(pull it off ibiblio from the same place you got openoffice.ci) in the directory you set for mydsl extensions(I belive this defaults to the root of the frugal install). This method will take up lots of ram, and the frugal install defaults toram so you may find yourself runing low on resources fast.

If you have the standard hdd install you can just download the openoffice.dsl file and use the mydsl option in emelfm to install it, this is also nice because it puts links on the desktop and menu. You could also just aptget and dpkg -i the .deb file from a debian ftp site. But i have no experience doing this w/dsl.

I thought I had read a thread in the forums about being
able to mount and unmount the .ci files with the mydsl
button in emelfm, same as you install a dsl ...
Seems roberts posted about that feature recently...

Remember to install the oouser.tar.gz, as it has the
icons and user files in it, if you use the openoffice.ci

I looked thru the getting started guide, but I didn't see
any mention of this.. Search the forums....

As null stated....
For the HDinstall, I'd install the dsl file..

Starting with 0.7.3 you can use the emelfm myDSL button to load the .ci files and their supporting .tar.gz

For example to quickly load open office use emelfm to naviagte to the location of the openoffice.ci and oouser.tar.gz files.

Select openoffice.ci and click the myDSL button. Then select oouser.tar.gz and click the myDSL button.

Same for firefox, highlight firefox.ci and click myDSL, highlight ffuser.tar.gz and click myDSL.

Quick, much faster than loading large tar.gz and .dsl files and uses much less memory.

Of course, they still work by placing them in the / directory or /optional directory, for automatic "loading" at boot up.
