i can run it perfectly fine off the cd. I'm trying to put it onto my hd but there are some problems. Using shell i did what many tutorials told me to do, i typed this in like every one else follwoing the tutorial does:
//
fdisk /dev/hda
//

it will then come up with the following reply:
unable to open /dev/hda.
ive also been trying other combinations but the same results happen. its starting to annoy me. Also in cfdisk the thing reports that there is an error and aborts immediatly.

any one got any help on partitioning, or any other partioning tools or a really decent tutorial, because ive seen em all and the quality aint great on them, or could just help me out on this problem

-thanks, 5-0

You need to be root.

"sudo su" (without the quotes) in console and then cfdisk.

Are you sure your HD is working ? Is there something on the HD now and will it boot without DSL? I have gotten the same message from bad HDs.
