Ah, Nvidia. That may be the reason you are not seeing anything. I have the fx5200 and had the same issue.
What I did was use the fb (frame buffer) mode.
Boot the DSL CD, at the boot prompt where you enter all your boot options, put this one:
dsl xsetup
At some point you will have some options to choose from. Choose the
xfbdev
option. Then choose your mouse option and keyboard.
DSL should start X after your choices are made. If not, and you see a command prompt, enter this:
startx
You should get a visual on your desktop now.
This is all fine and well, but with the Nvidia stuff, you may want to start thinking about xfree86 and the nvidia drivers. Both of which are in the DSL repository. You can search on these terms in the forums for some helpful tips. Otherwise, you can create a new post in the forums. Nvidia stuff works so much better with xfree and the nvidia drivers for DSL that I am sure you will be glad you did it.
