I have an old (166mhz, 48mb ram) machine I'd like to install DSL on.

What's the best way to install DSL?  (I'd assume a linux boot floppy, but then I wouldn't be able to test DSL before hand on that system.  The hardware configuration, fluxbox, etc.)

Thanks

Three ways:

(1) Create a DSL boot floppy.  Check out the DSL web site FAQ for details. The boot floppy may not work if you have an older non-standard IDE/ATAPI CDROM drive.  The only way to know is to give it a try.

(2) While running MSDOS or MSWindows, copy the \KNOPPIX directory on the CD disk over to your C:\KNOPPIX\ directory.  Then try the boot floppy from option #1.  It should detect your hard drive as a fake CDROM and start up DSL.  Search the forums for "Poor Man's Install" or "Frugal Install" for more details.

Good Luck.
