Hi.
First of all : DSL is a very interesting kind of operating system.
I'd like to try it out.

I have an old PC on where I don't even have a CD-ROM, but I can get the hard drive out of there, built it in PC2 (on which I've downloaded DSL) and then install it on the hard disk.

Problem is : It doesn't work (also because it's still FAT32 formatted).

I can format it to ext2 / ext3 with partition magic, but I don't actually know how to install linux.
Is it just required to format as ext2, and then copying everything from the .ZIP file in there?
I'd like to have more information

cheers  :)

Hello,

Is it not possible to take the cdrom from your second PC and install it in the old PC just for the installation process ?

If you haven't already, then make a DSL CD from the ISO image.

Keep the hard drive in the 2nd PC and format it ext2.  Then boot DSL from CD.  Once the LiveCD is up and running right click on the desktop and go to Apps-->Tools.  From there you can do an "Install to harddrive" or "Frugal install."  Once DSL is installed, move the hard drive back to the first computer.  If all goes well, you should be in business.

Hope this helps,

Go to the wiki page and read up on the "Poormans Install"

I think it is under one of the booting sections like Boot Floppies
