just "hda3" should do. There is a GUI backup/restore tool in the system section of the menu, and the pertinent config file is /opt/.backup_device. If hda3 is where DSL is installed, the backup should be restored automatically. If you have more than one partition that contains a "backup.tar.gz" file in its root, you should probably specify "restore=hda3" in your bootloader's settings. Otherwise, DSL should just search the partitions for backup.tar.gz and load the first one it finds.
The files that are backed up are listed in /home/dsl/.filetool.lst, with exclusions in .xfiletool.lst. The default in DSL 1.5 is that just about everything in /home/dsl is backed up, so if your desktop setting are not being restored, i'd look at making sure the backup is being created.
