my freind steve had the idea of installig dsl to a compaq flash drive <that is what its called rght? (i have forgotten the exact name of the hardware it would be installed to)> and running it on a cheap laptop.  he said something about having a boot floppy to run it.  is this possible, and if it is, could someone tell me how to go about doing this, it would be mch appreciated

You don't really need a boot floppy.
Everything is right here: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/store/embedded_storage

thanx roberts.  that is exactly what i was looking for.  how much memory do those have on them?  if they have a lot, then it will be perfect for building a custom laptop.  would a good idea be to buy a good one from alienware or gateway, or just getting a cheap one out of the pennysaver?

i want to have it setup so that i have dsl as my main os, then having windows xp installed as a secondary, so i can use linux for my regular hacking and such , and then have windows for gaming.

Those are the adapters. You buy your CF depending on memory size desired. Did you click on John's Toy? It shows a system with no harddrive and a 256MB CF. I have used a 64MB CF inside an old notebook, another notebook, I have a 128MB CF. I also use CF in some of my white boxes. The box that I use to do remastering actually has the OS, DSL of course, on a 64MB CF. So, depending on your budget, buy what you need.  I have had very good results with SansDisk. With frugal_instal.sh and myDSL, you can literally build a solid state DSL appliance.

awesome.

il probably get dsl on a 256 mb and take out the hard drive,  dsl is 48 mb, so i would have 80 mb for extra stuff, and if i need etra space, i can get another cf to put in right?  is there enough space to do this with on a laptop? if not, how much space is there?
