Thanks for your help. I did try adding an IDE to the VM but cfdisk did not see any /dev/hda,b,c... Let me try that again. My main question is, what do you use to see a list of what /dev/hd-whatever's DSL is seeing? I plainly confess my ignorance in the details of running Linux and do not know how to do this.
As to adding the VMWare tools, I just used the VM | Install VMWare Tools... pulldown menu choice. If there was an error message I never saw it in the several times I did this on different DSL VM installs. I'm running VMWare Workstation 5.0, which may handle this differently from GSX Server.
