I did a frugal grub install, but I can't get the framebuffer mode (which it looks like I'm stuck with, dammit) to work.  If I boot from the CD and use fb1024x768 to boot, I get prompted for a bunch of X server settings, and eventually it comes up.  With the HD install, same process, but it won't launch X.  It complains about module fb not being loaded.  Ideas?

My semi-wrecked laptop does the same.... with the whole cd copied to the harddisk.

But it works in 800x600x16 with the svga too

jsd,

You will need to start a framebuffer with the vga=xxx cheatcode.

add it to the kernel line in grub's menu.lst
