yay! i finally figured out my sound problem since dsl version 0.3.9 . i typed in " sudo modprobe sb " in bash.... and now i can play mp3s on xmms and actually hear them. my system which had the prob is a compaq presario 4712, pentium 166, 48mb ram. i run windows 98 on it too and in win98 it uses ess drivers( i think). but i think modprobe sb is for soundblasters... i dont care... cuz it works super well.
