I am using DSL 2.1b as frugal install on a Thinkpad T20 with 128 MB RAM and I absolutely love it. Thanks to all who have contributed to the development of this distro that is perfect for those of us who use older machines.
I was wondering if someone can guide me through the process of setting up gPhone. When I open the client, it says Status:Waiting for connection... Connected to: <nobody>. It then has two boxes with Mic and Spk that are empty and below them is a "Switch" button (unclickable, ie. greyed out) and another button "mute". Finally it has three buttons - "call", "config" and "quit". When I click on the config button, it asks me to enter receive port and send port for network configuration. It also has several options for sound configuration. I have no clue how to configure all this and start making VoIP calls. Can someone help with the set up. I would really like to try it out.
Also I would appreciate if others have any opinion about the sound quality with gPhone compared to Skype. I tried installing Skype using MyDSL but the sound is not clear. But when I use the same machine on Windows XP the sound is much clearer. I was wondering if this is because the Skype client in DSL has not been perfected yet. So I want to give gphone a try.
Any comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
