Hi all,

The following strange problem occurs:

About 90% of the time when I start XMMS up to play some music my internet connection is gone. After I close XMMS the connection works again. And when I start XMMS up again, the connection is gone again. I just use XMMS for local files, not for streams.

Also what's strange is that it happens about 90% of the time, but there are times that everything just works fine.

I'm on a 300Mhz 128 Mb RAM machine, with a permanent broadband internet connection, playing mp3's from a FAT-32 partition (hda4).

Any help will be appreciated.

Call your ISP's helpline, tell them you're running a micro Linux distro with experimental software and they'll be very glad to help you...

Jokes apart, what do you mean when you say that you lose your connection?
Is it ADSL or cable?

Do you run 'sudo ifconfig -a' after losing your connection? What do you do to get your connection back?

I bet it's a laptop!

If you open a terminal window and type:

mpg321 /home/dsl/name_of_my_file.mp3

does it do the same behavior?

Maybe your soundcard and your networkcard are using the same IRQ or io location.
