I installed dsl on my harddrive and now i want to install the e-mc software, but i`m completely new in linux, so can anyone give me a howto, for installing software may with synaptic or apt.... I downloaded an *_i386.deb file and what must i do with it?

1) Choose Enable APT from the menu. Wait for it to finish.
2) Open a terminal window and type:

sudo su
dpkg -i name_of_file.deb
