Maybe you should take a glance at those links:

or even better (coz using ogg vorbis) http://www.xiph.org/

for example, some streams i like:
http://www.live365.com/play/312537 (progressive rock)
http://musica.apsique.com:8000/playlist.ogg (spanish alternative station)
http://8153.str.ovh.net:8153/ (french rock station)
http://217.71.214.36:8080 (oui fm, another french rock station)
http://70.85.72.122:8000 (big blue radio: american blues and rock station)

and much more, in every differnet musical style.
i use xmms through stream tuner (hope stream tuner may be one day in dsl or dsl-n)

I not confide in the plug-ins for web browser then I downloaded the play.pls playlist file from: www.live365.com/cgi-bin/play.pls?stationid=309492 and I play so:
mplayer -playlist play.pls
