Hi,

I am new to Linux. But I have a plan. And I have questions.

The plan: Convert an old PC to a Linux based music/MP3 jukebox.

The material: DSLinux v3.2, Pentium 133MHz w/64Mb memory, 2 hard disk (Master 1.2Gb, Slave 4Gb). ISA sound card is ESS Audiodrive 1688. All of the above was seen by Windows 98SE and functioned properly. No previous experience with Linux, but computer savvy.

Everything seems to work with DSL running from CD-ROM, booting with floppy assist. When I start xmms and try to play something, I get a message saying there is no output plugin selected. What to do? I have not heard DSL make a single “peep” so far now that I think about it. Does DSL recognize ISA cards? Is there a way to make it look for it?

Thanks.

Did you set up your audio?

Try `sudo modprobe sb`

Or you could try alsa and/or sndconfig
