Hi everyone
First, congratulations to DSL developers. I have done real new life to my old Toshiba 300CDS laptop, with P-MMX 166, 32 MB RAM, 2 GB hdd, yamaha opl3sa2 soundcard, cdrom and modem.
I have installed DSL into hd, running sound, running cd...all fine. But problems comes when I try to reproduce avi films or divx. I downloaded mplayer.dsl and xine.dsl and I installed first gnu-utils.dsl and dsl-dpkg. When I try to launch mplayer, it says "Illegal operation", and close itself; in xine, when I launch the app as root, it remains on screen, but if I select play file option, DSL entire hangs completly. If I as root use in xterm the command xine '/cdrom/file.avi', the name appears in xine window, but killed itself with the text in xterm screen saying: Xlib: extension "XVideo" missing on display ":0.0", and a message in dmesg that display this text: _alloc_pages:0-order allocation failed 0x1d2/0.
After days crashing me into the xine, I downloaded Geexbox, in order to check if my laptop can reproduce avi or not, and the answer is "yes" and with mplayer as player embedded into Geexbox.
So, how I can install an avi/divx player into DSL? what I mess? Has anyone succeed installing xine in DSL on laptop?
Just another thing, related to another post about booting toshiba laptop from cd. In order to install DSL, I must boot from the floppy, enter in dsl 2, hd-install and just done DSL install in Laptop. The same in older PC as Pentium-S 100 with BIOS award PRIME-C.
