I've already read several HOWTOs on this, but my DWL-122 (USB prism2) still refuses to cooperate :(

Here's what I've done so far:

Start DSL 1.1
plug in DWL-122
check "lsmod" - module prism2_usb loaded !
Open DSL controlPanel - click on Prism2
--- DEVICE : wlan0
--- CHANNEL : 6
--- SID : FRITZbox
--- WEP : 31:32:33:34:35 etc.

ISP-data is stored on the router

I'ld be very grateful, if anyone could tell me, what I've done wrong!

btw - It´s labled H/W Ver.: A1 just in case this does matter !?
.... and works just fine with SuSE.

I have the same USB wireless thingy as you.
I use DSL 1.5 and DSL 2.1b, the USB thingy works just fine in both of those. I see you are using DSL 1.1. Consider upgrading if all else fails.

I open the DSL Panel
Click: Prism 2
device: wlan0
channel: 6
sid: yadayada
wep: i do not use wep

Click OK

It will then attempt to get a DHCP IP. Sometimes it is not successful on the first attempt, but it always works on the second attempt.
I have used WEP in the past, but there is another machine on my wireless network that refuses to use WEP. I am not to afraid of anyone snooping because of the location where I reside and lack of personal information being trnasmitted thru the air. I enable a MAC address list on my router to prevent MAC addresses that are not on the list from having access to the network.

At any rate, the D-Link USB thingy works great. That's theONLY D-Link piece of hardware that I have had that did.

EDIT: I just remembered that if I used a text WEP key vs. a HEX WEP key, I had better success. But have had success with both.

Thanks green,

I think there are only two *.inf files on my D-Link CD:

Autorun.inf -- in CDs rootDir and
NETPRISM.inf -- under ../Utility/Drivers

..and I´ve already tried both :(

btw. got DSL 2.0 and tried it - with no success :((

lsmod says:
usbcore / uhci / 802.11 / prism2_usb -- all loaded
dmesg shows that connecting and unplugging of USB-device is recognized

I JUST CAN´T FIGURE OUT WHERE THE PROBLEM IS !!

If You have any further suggestions - don´t hesitate..

BUT - just to talk about is a relief ..  :) :) :)

luehmannt, this is the forum I told you about. Maybe someone here can help you.
