I think I'm close to getting my wireless card to work on my laptop, there's just a final block for me.

I'm a Red Hat Refugee, I just got sick of downloading so many ISO images and RH changing it's look and feel so much and all the time getting SLOWER.  So now I run DSL and I installed it no problem off my usb pendrive and I'm really impressed!

When I first put my SMC prism2_cs based card in the slot the module loaded immediatly (verified with lsmod) and it apeared to find the card in the syslog as a DemarcTech Relia-Wave 180mW 802.11b (which it's an SMC2532W-B whatver, they're both prism2_cs) but the interface never came up.

So figured out to edit /etc/network/interfaces and add the wlan0 interface there, and then to uncomment the prism2_cs alaias in /etc/modutils/linux-wlan-ng and reboot and now the interface comes up when I insert in the slot and pump sends out a dhcp discover but it fails to hook up with the access point!

Here's where I'm blocked.  I figure there must be some place somewhere I can put in the wireless info like the network id and stuff, but I can't find it and I'm unfamilar with debian layout (help the RH Refugees!)  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

-Michel

Try iwconfig commands as root for example:

iwconfig eth0 mode managed channel 6 essid myssid
iwconfig eth0 key xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xx essid myssid

Once you get it working add these commands to /opt/bootlocal.sh
And if this is a liveCD then add /opt/bootlocal.sh to your filetool.lst and backup
